Former 6th Brigade Headquarter
A wooden, single‑story, tiled‑roof building with a floor area of 196 m², it was constructed by the Imperial Japanese Army in 1898 (Meiji 31).
Built on a level below the Ninomaru, where the headquarters of the 9th Division once stood, it is the only military structure within Kanazawa Castle that remains in its original location without having been relocated since its construction.
With a symmetrical design centered around its main entrance, the building followed architectural plans created by the Ministry of the Army, resulting in similar structures being built at division headquarters throughout the country.
The interior was divided into several rooms, including the commander’s office and reception rooms
Meeting Room
During the period when Kanazawa University occupied the site, the building was used as the Education Center.
Today, it serves as one of the administrative offices for Kanazawa Castle Park, used for meeting rooms and storage.
(The interior is not open to the public.)
Meanwhile, the former 9th Division Headquarters building that once stood in the Ninomaru was relocated after the war and is now used as one of the buildings of the National Crafts Museum located in Honda-no-Mori Park.
Brick Tunnel
Another surviving military structure is a brick tunnel built into the stone walls of the Honmaru.
The army, which used the Honmaru as an ammunition depot, modified the stone wall to create an access passage to the storage area.
Traces and remains of such military-era alterations can still be found in various locations throughout the castle grounds today.
